Retirees of the federal civil service have asked for an upward review of the pension of civil servants in the country according to section 173(3) of the Nigerian constitution. The retirees under the auspices of the Association of Federal Public Service Retirees stated that the constitution has made provision for the review of pensions after five years or when workers’ salaries are reviewed. They added that the Federal Government should pay the 33 percent increase in the arrears.
The vice chairman of the group, Geoffery Chima, while speaking with journalists in Abuja, noted that the review had been due since July 2015. He said pensioners of the customs, immigration and prisons had enjoyed an increase recently.
