Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has said that he is sure dropped captain Wayne Rooney will bounce back from his nightmare form. Rooney was relegated to the bench in the Red Devils’ 4-1 beating of Leicester City. The 30-year-old had been blamed for the lack of flow in the attack with poorly played passes and loss of possession in delicate areas. It is also believed that the side’s impressive outing against the Foxes on Saturday was not unconnected with Jose Mourinho’s decision to drop Rooney to the bench.
Smalling says Rooney has been a professional after the decision going about his normal routine and motivating the team.
“Wayne did not appear down. He was the same before the game when we were all getting ready. He is often one of the most vocal and he was the same,” Smalling told reporters.
Smalling captained the team in their convincing victory and also grabbed one of the goals. Also notably, world record signing Paul Pogba bagged his first goal for the team.
