Yaya Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, has hit back at Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola over his request for an apology. The Russian, who hurled insults at Guardiola for dropping his client from the Citizens’ Champions League squad, has said the former Barcelona boss is not good enough to handle the English side’s ambitions. Seluk said Guardiola had enjoyed success at the Spanish side because he had Lionel Messi pulling the strings on the field of play. He also said the team had been built by Frank Rijkaard before his sacking.
When asked about the manager’s time at Bayern Munich, Seluk said Bayern was already enjoying success before Guardiola was employed. He also highlighted the fact that he failed at the Champions League.
“Pep was successful at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but take a look behind that success,” he told The Mirror .
“The team he took at Barca had been built by [his predecessor] Frank Rijkaard and then he was lucky to have Lionel Messi. It was Messi who made Barca, not Pep. Luis Enrique has shown that Barca’s success was not down to Guardiola.
“It was the same in Munich. Bayern won the treble before Guardiola took over. They already had a great team on the pitch and a great organisation off the pitch. He couldn’t fail. My grandfather could have won the league with that team.
“Carlo Ancelotti will keep Bayern at the top – but the difference is that i also think he will win the Champions League there.”
Seluk and Guardiola are at loggerheads following the latter’s insistence on leaving 33-year-old Yaya Toure from his team. Toure’s only appearance for the Spaniard was at the team’s second leg tie against Steaua Bucharesti in a Champions League play-off match. The Citizens’ were already 5-0 up in the first leg.
