US Police Charge White Officer Over ‘Racial’ Killing

Police authorities in Charlotte, US, has charged a white officer Betty Shelby with manslaughter over last week’s killing of a black man Terence Crutcher.

The police had claimed the white officer shot Crutcher for refusing to disarm, a claim rejected by the deceased’s family.

The family’s lawyer, Justin Bamberg, said no gun was visible in the video and Mr Scott appeared to be “acting calm”.

“You do see something in his hand, but it’s impossible to make out from the video what it is.”

Crutcher reportedly stood by his car when he was shot in Tulsa.

The killing has sparked days of protest in the community, and even shunning a curfew imposed by the police.

The protesters were seen Thursday night singing gospel songs on the third day of protest Thursday night.

However, Police chief Kerr Putney told Fox news the killing was justified.

“The officer perceived his failure to comply with commands, failure to drop the weapon and facing the officers as an imminent threat,” he said.
