Air Force Bombs Sambisa Forest

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has begun a bombardment of Sambisa Forest, in Borno state, notorious for proving a haven for Boko Haram insurgents. A report says the lastest operation aimed at further degrading the remnants of Boko Haram holed up in the vast Forest. Codenamed ‘OPERATION FOREST STORM’, the operation begun on October 2 and expected to last a few days, according to NAF, will restrict the freedom of action of the insurgents and neutralise any threat it may pose to rescue operations.
Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, Director of Public Relations and Information, said a similar operation in the Niger Delta – “Operation Delta Safe’’ – has continued to rid the creeks in the Niger Delta of illegal oil refineries and theft of crude products. Famuyiwa said aerial surveillance of the area showed oil thieves were seen digging bays to bury storage tanks, drums and jerry cans.
