Second tier Bundesliga side Hannover have said they are interested in signing Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker. The club have been admirers of their former player for sometime time but have agreed it faces a uphill task in bringing back to the club where he started his professional career. The 32-year-old came through the ranks of the Hannover youth academy, before leaving for Werder Bremen after three years in the first team. He moved to Arsenal in August 2011, but his boyhood club are hopeful of luring him back to the HDI-Arena sooner rather than later.
“Everybody knows what Hannover mean to Per. Maybe we can make him enthusiastic about a return,” Bader told Bild.
“A transfer is still far away now and it seems like a crazy thing to even discuss it. But anything can happen in football.”
