The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has paid the Super Eagles some of their outstanding allowances and bonuses after their convincing victory over the Chipolopolo of Zambia on Sunday. The players are reported to have had about $8,000 in flight ticket refunds, match bonuses and appearances fees for two friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg in May as well as the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania last month.
The players are however yet to receive payment for their triumph over Zambia. Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi and Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho scored a goal each to hand the Eagles victory. An error by Kenneth Omeruo gifted the Zambians a consolation. Also of note was goalkeeper Carl Ikeme’s outstanding performance to keep the match under control. The Wolverhampton Wanderers of England shot stopper produced fine saves to keep the rampaging Zambians at bay.
The Eagles will play Algeria, who played out a 1-1 draw with Cameroon on Sunday, in November.
