The Federal Government has converted former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh’s N1.1 billion mansion into an office. The mansion which is located on Plot 6 Ogun River Crescent, Maitama, Abuja has been handed over to the Presidential Committee on the North-East Intervention led by Theophilus Danjuma. Punch reports that desks had been placed in strategic positions and cleaners and gardeners hired to clean up the premises.
Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, had said in June that the Federal Government was planning to use some seized properties as offices to save money spent on rent.
Badeh is currently under trial for 10 counts of money laundering bordering on alleged fraudulent removal of about N3.97 billion from the Nigerian Air Force account. He is being tried along with a firm Iyalikam Nigeria Limited. A former Director of Finance and Account of the Nigerian Air Force, Aliyu Yishau,who is a prosecution witness against Badeh, had informed the court that while he was the Chief of Air Staff, he routinely helped Badeh to divert the sum of N558.2m by converting it to its dollar equivalent.
