Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo warmed his bench as his side Watford beat Middlesbrough 1-0. The player, who missed the Eagles triumphant outing against Zambia in the World Cup qualifiers last Sunday, lost his starting spot to Nigerian Isaac Success. Ighalo was at his mother’s funeral in his native Edo State while the Eagles battled at Ndola.
Isaac Success made sure his compatriot’s absence was not felt as he was a constant menace, with Boro right-back Antonio Barragan somehow escaping a red card for a string of fouls on the visitors’ club-record signing. Barragan was fortunate to remain on the pitch when he tugged Success to the ground, having been cautioned for an earlier foul. Success again raided down Boro’s right flank, and hit the deck under Adam Forshaw’s challenge in the area. As the visitors protested to referee Roger East, Holebas reacted quickly to rob Cristhian Stuani 30 yards out and lash a swerving shot into the top-left corner past a helpless Victor Valdes.
