Argentine striker Mauro Icardi is less likely to become a fans’ favourite at Inter Milan in the nearest future. The player and the fans’ relationship hit a new low after the match against Cagliari at the San Siro on Sunday. The forward, with an impressive return of four goals in five matches, had missed a penalty and missed several glorious chances in the game which the Nerazzurris lost by 2-1.
The fans were initially angry with the forward and had demanded that his captain armband be taken from him after derogatory comments about them were written in his autobiography. The fans were seen holding different banners against the forward in Sunday’s game against visiting Cagliari.
“Icardi, as far as we are concerned, you’re finished,” a statement from Inter’s biggest Ultra group read.
“Why such squalid fiction? We are horrified, that book is ridiculous and there are only lies.
“We merely ask for effort and honesty, while he depicts us as threatening figures who gravitate around the club asking for who knows what, so evidently something is wired wrong in his head.
“An individual like this does not deserve the captain’s armband. It is pathetic to read such things talking about us. There are no more excuses. We considered him young, a bit of an idiot like many, but deep down a good lad.
“Instead, this is an individual who cannot be allowed to wear the Inter armband. It’s not for us, but Inter simply don’t deserve this.
“You are finished with us. You’re done. TAKE THE ARMBAND OFF, YOU CLOWN. Yes, that is what we demand.”
Inter’s poor run under new manager Frank De Boer has continued after the loss to Cagliari with the side recording their third defeat of the season.
