Judge Insists On Handling Saraki’s Case

By Ola Adeola
Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), says dismissed a move seeking his withdrawal from the prosecution of Senate President Bukola Saraki. In his ruling on the motion filed by Saraki’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, Umar said the case would be stalemated if he withdrew.
“The application to recuse myself has not been contemplated in the constitution. In the absence of a chairman, this trial cannot go on, therefore I cannot recuse myself. The chairman is the tribunal, without the chairman there is no tribunal.” he said.
“The application of the applicant is founded on mere conjecture. The application of the applicant is not well-founded, it is hereby dismissed.” Umar’s refusal is the second of such application for his self-disqualification from the case.
