A militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, has claimed responsibility for an attack on a crude oil pipeline in Iwhremaro, Delta State, on Thursday night.
“Now you shall know what uprooting of your cherished assets means,” it said to the government and major oil companies that work in joint ventures with NNPC.
“More to come in the coming days,” the militant group said.
Reuters said it got a confirmation of the attack from a military spokesman, Thomas Otuji, who said, “It was sabotage by vandals”.
Militant attacks on oil facilities had hampered production and reduced output to 700,000 barrels per day.
