A newborn baby has recovered after he was stabbed about 14 times and buried alive in a shallow grave in a forest in the Khon Kaen province of Thailand. The baby, Aidin, had been left for dead before he was discovered by a cattle herder in February. The herder, Kachit Krongyut, had thought he was a pet until she heard his tender cries. She rushed him to a hospital where he recovered from his 14 stab wounds. Care givers say he could have bled to death but for the pressure of the soil on his skin.
Aidin was taken to an orphanage where he is now set to be adopted by a Swedish couple.
The baby’s mother has since been arrested and charged with attempted murder and abandoning her own child. Footprints and motorbike tracks left on the scene helped the police find her.
