The National Judicial Council, NJC, may censure the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government over the controversial arrest of some federal judges, a source told Newsbreak.Ng. It is also said that the judicial body, at its Tuesday meeting, will clarify reports that it purportedly frustrated investigation into corruption allegation against some judges. Multiple media reports had quoted sources in the Department of State Security, DSS, saying the NJC denied the former information sought on the affected judges. The clearest inkling about the possible reprimand of federal government’s action was Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Mahmood Mohammed’s calling of the raid “regrettable” and applauding the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, condemnation of the raid.
Moreover, the arrested judges are said to have been released on bail. The arrested justices were said to have been visited by CJN during their brief detention.
The disgraced judges are Sylvester Ngwuta, John Okoro, Adeniyi Ademola, Kabiru Auta, A. I. Umezulike, Muazu Pindiga, and Ibrahim Tsamiya.
