Eyitayo Jegede, former attorney general and commissioner of justice in Ondo State, South West Nigeria, will flag off his governorship campaign Wednesday. Jegede is the candidate favoured by incumbent Governor Olusegun Mimiko for the state’s gubernatorial election.
Dayo Adeyeye, spokesman for the Senator Ahmed Markafi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said on Wednesday.
Adeyeye, who phoned in during a television political programme monitored by newsbreak.ng, also hinted the party would challenge a court ruling that nullified Jegede’s candidacy. Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court Abuja had ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should recognise businessman Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s candidate for the election. Ibrahim belongs to the opposing Senator Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party.
