A woman has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly setting a pregnant housewife on fire.

The suspect, Lami Clement, 22, was reported to have doused her victim, Amina Ayodele, with petrol before lighting her up. The victim sustained injuries to her face, hands and thighs.

The suspect, according to PUNCH, was in a relationship with Ayodele’s husband. Upon Clement’s arrest, she alleged a plan to torch Ayodele’s house and not the pregnant mother herself.

“I did not actually go there to burn his wife; my intention was to go to his house and burn all his property. I did not know his wife was in the house. He jilted me after long years of relationship and married another woman.” Clement said.

Mahmoud Mohammed, Public Relations Officer for Bauchi Police Command, said the victim is currently receiving treatment at the Orthopedic ward of the  Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi. He also confirmed Clement had been charged to court.
