The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a sergeant, who allegedly killed a 20-year-old undergraduate from a polytechnic in Edo State.
The affected former officer, Collins Idom was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court, on Monday. He reportedly shot at the victim, Joseph Eidonojie-Ugbeni while out with his cousin for a drink.
Idom, alongside his team members, allegedly shot indiscriminately while chasing a suspected internet fraudster, identified by his alias – Badoo. It was in the process that a stray bullet hit Joseph, who died instantly.
Presiding Magistrate A.O. Awogboro ordered the suspect be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Dolapo Badmos, a superintendent, and Public Relations Officer for Lagos Police Command, said extra judicial killings was intolerable.
“As a command, we have respect for human rights. We will not tolerate a situation where a police officer will use his position to torment any member of the public. The Inspector-General of Police has ordered that any policeman involved in extra-judicial killing should face the consequence.” she said.
