Real Madrid have toed their German midfielder Toni Kroos to a new contract keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu till 2022. The new deal has also made the 26-year-old the highest paid German football in history with a €20 million per season before tax salary. Kroos has helped the team to one Champions League trophy, the Club World Cup and two UEFA Super Cups.
“Real Madrid and Toni Kroos have agreed to an extension of the player’s contract, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2022,” a Madrid statement read.
Kroos has made 108 appearances since moving to the Santiago Bernabeu from Bayern Munich in 2014. He had been a transfer target for Manchester United and rivals City in the summer. Reports had also suggested Italian giants Juventus wanted him to replace Paul Pogba at the Juventus Stadium.
