Operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Emu-Larry Chidiebere for being involved in a United Arab Emirates’ visa scam. The 28-year-old man, from Ika North Local Government Area in Delta State, swindled one Abraham Jude and four other persons of N2 million under the false pretense of helping them to procure a Dubai Visa. According to Abraham, he had met Chidiebere after he lost his job in Abuja. He said he had wanted to leave the country to start a new life when the suspect’s uncle, Samuel Obed, recommended his nephew. He said after much persuasion, he had raised the sum of N400,000 to commence the processing. Problems however started when Chidiebere stopped picking his calls. Abraham stated that the few times he picked, he had been hostile and told him to forget about the visa. He said he was told the money had been spent and he should move on.
He said the development prompted him to alert the RRS who asked him to feed them back whenever the suspect was in the country. He was arrested four months after the matter was reported with the Police monitoring his movement between Nigeria and UAE.
Chidiebere confessed to receiving the money but said he had tried to make the visa possible but his efforts were in vain. He said he had started spending the money until he could no longer raise it leading to him being hostile.
RRS investigators revealed that Emu – Larry has under the guise of helping four other victims from obtaining Dubai visa collected a total of N1.6 million from them, and that some of them only came forward when they learnt that he has been arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State, Dolapo Badmus, said that Police will not rest on its oars in protecting rights of any individual in the country. The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
