Two soldiers of the Nigerian Army have been arrested in connection with the kidnap of the wife of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. The men, Musa Maidabara, a corporal of 322 Artillery Regiment and Edwin George, a lance corporal, of 371 Artillery Regiment of Maiduguri, were said to have been caught in possession of a huge sum of money and other valuables. Premium Times reports that the men are students of the Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
They were arrested with over N15 million cash. While Maidabara was arrested along Benin-Asaba Road, George was arrested in his hometown, Otukpo, Benue State. Maidabara visited his brother, also a soldier, at 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Onitsha, Anambra State, with whom he kept all the money. The money has been recovered by security operatives.
Premium Times also reports that they had two Honda Accord cars at the time of their arrest.
Emefiele’s wife, Margaret, was kidnapped along Benin-Agbor Road along with a police detail attached to her. Reports say the family had parted with a huge sum of money to pay her ransom.
