Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said 3,000 Nigerian Youths will be trained in Animation Technology. Speaking at the French, Japanese and Nigerian Festival held in Abuja, on Wednesday, Mohammed said the programme will be sponsored by a Canadian company, Toon Boom.
”On the whole we envisage 5,000 Nigerian youths being trained. But we are starting with 3,000″, Mohammed stated.
The minister also hinted that Nigerian and French governments will be training the beneficiaries on how to make children films and animations.
He noted that Nollywood has not produced animated films, which the programme will avail them the opportunity to
Denys Guaer, ambassador of France to Nigeria, corroborated Mohammed’s statement.
“Having this in mind we should not forget the fledgling Nigerian animated industry, Nigerian animated movies are still rare despite being the second largest film industry in the world.
“More animated studios are opening in Abuja and Lagos. But this sub-sector is still facing some challenges.”
