A football academy coach, Frank Darlington, has been arrested after it emerged he had been having sex with his players in the Agege area of Lagos. Darlington, an Imo State origin, was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after one of his victims made a report. The coach, who manages Soccer Warriors Football Academy at Pen Cinema, reportedly takes the players to his house where he commits the crime with them.

Darlington told Punch Metro that he had been sleeping with the boys since February, 2015 but had stopped the act in July, 2016. He said the act was unconnected with any ritual and was for pure pleasure.  He said he had been marriage with a four-year-old daughter before he divorced his wife in March 2016. The 49-year-old said he had been in the business of coaching for 12 years and was still at a loss to why he took to sleeping with the boys.

”I slept with only three of my footballers. There was one of my boys that had not been coming for training since last week. When I asked after him, I was told that he was sick. I did not know that he had reported to his mother and she had told the police.

”I do not know what moved me to be sleeping with them. I have been coaching for about 12 years. My wife stays in the South-East. She left me in March 2016. The sex with the boys was not for any ritual. I only derived fun from it.

”I knew it was a crime and that was why I stopped this act since July. I pledged not to go back into this,” he said.

One if his victims said he had threatened him with death if he revealed his acts to anyone. He said he had deceived him into believing he did badly at training and invited him over to his house for a discussion. He revealed that he had taken him to his room where he had anal sex with him. He stated that he told his mum about his abuse when he could not tolerate the act anymore. It was his mother who reported to the police before he was arrested.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspect would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
