Anambra To Export Scent Leaf To UK

By Adebayo Williams

Anambra State will export scent leaf, popularly called Nchuanwu, to the United Kingdom after it received an order for the vegetable. The state had exported Ugu to some European countries raking in about 5 million pounds for the state. Forty cooperative societies have been empowered to grow the vegetables to meet the order in the next two months. The government has provided three water pumps to each cooperative society, special fertilizers and scent leaves to aid the speedy cultivation of the vegetables.

The State Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on UNDP and Foreign Donors, Nneka Onwudiwe, implored the farmers to take the order seriously and work hard to meet it. She said the farmers were not used to doing dry season planting but had to go to work because the orders had been placed.
