Arsenal and Tottenham played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon to set a new Premier League record. The teams have set a record for the highest scoring fixture in the history of the league. The teams have 139 goals between them in total games played against each other.
Arsenal looked to be set for a victory when Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer turned in a Mesut Ozil free-kick in the first half. Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi could have gifted the Gunners the lead after a counter attack initiated by Alexis Sanchez and Ozil fell to him. The 20-year-old fluffed the chance shooting straight at Hugo Lloris.
There was a clash between players of both teams as Victor Wanya took a lunge at Theo Walcott springing a protest among the players. The referee had to control the situation from degenerating into a major fight.
Laurent Koscielny felled Moussa Dembele in the area to gift the visitors the chance they had been waiting for. Petr Cech had impatiently dived before the returning Harry Kane sent the ball into the middle of the net. Mauricio Pochettino’s men again came close when Christian Erikssen’s free kick evaded everyone in the area but could only bounce off the post.
Arsenal are third, one point below leaders Chelsea and three above Tottenham in fifth place. Their next test after the international break is against bitter rivals Manchester United.
