Ebonyi To Make N6bn From Rice Production

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has predicted Ebonyi State would be able produce local rice that will generate more than N6billion revenue yearly.

Audu Ogbeh, Minister of Agriculture disclosed this in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, reiterating the need to stop rice importation when the country has potential to produce same in commercial quantities.

According to him, each shipload of rice imported into the country displaces about 12, 000 farmers.

Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Godwin Emefiele present said with the dwindling foreign reserve, the President has directed focus rice production locally as the country could no longer import rice.

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, commended Emefiele efforts in managing the economy as recession has eaten deep accompanied by the fall in oil prices.

“Events like the recession are not only peculiar to Nigeria and you have done well to manage the state of the nation’s economy,” alleging those criticizing the CBN is after the country’s detriment.

However, Emefiele thanked the Governor for responding to the President’s call, and assured that farmers in Ebonyi State will benefit from the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, ABP of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
