The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, says it would impose harsher punishments against drug counterfeiters, including life sentence, confiscation of their assets.
The agency said it will compensate victims from the proceeds of the sale of substandard drugs seized from the counterfeiters.
Christabel Okoye, NAFDAC’s Public Enlightenment Consultant, disclosed this in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during a one-day sensitization workshop for members of the Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers, NAPPMD.
She expressed displeasure at patent medicine dealers converting their stores into clinics and maternity homes without necessary experience.
Christabel urged them to report cases of substandard products to the agency for action.
