Self-acclaimed ‘Hyena’, Eric Aniva, has reportedly landed in jail for performing sex rituals on women in the community.
The HIV-positive Malawian, who is alleged to have slept with at least one hundred girls and women, was on Tuesday, sentenced to two years imprisonment for “harmful practices”.
Aniva, was prosecuted on the orders of the court president, Peter Mutharika, after publicly declaring himself a “Hyena” in a BBC radio documentary earlier in the year.
It was gathered that the suspect is paid to have sex with bereaved widows to exorcise evil spirits and to prevent other deaths from occurring.
Also, he is paid to sleep with adolescent girls on their parents requests to mark their passage into womanhood after first menstruation.
Aniva, pleaded not guilty to the two charges preferred against him.
Mutharika said that “the convict had no regard for the feelings of widows, no regard to dignity of women and it is even doubtful that condoms were used, Such a culture has no place in Malawi.
