Houseboy Remanded For Theft In Lagos

By Bright Bassey

A Tinubu Magistrates Court on Wednesday remanded a 23-year-old houseboy, Henry Iruma-Egana, for alleged theft.

The suspect, a housekeeper who worked with one Godwin Okoh, was accused of stealing his employer’s credit card and purchasing a home theatre, laptop and cell phone on Konga, an online retail store.

The prosecutor, Richard Odigie, said the accused stole Godwin Okoh’s credit card on November 16th and used it to buy goods to the tune of N328,000, stating his offence contravened section Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos.

“Okoh received alert of withdrawal of N187,500, N68,000 and N73,000 respectively on November 16th and 17th, and then went to his bank to report the withdrawals.

The theft was traced to the accused.” Odigie said.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, F.O. Ikobayo, remanded the housekeeper pending ruling on his bail application.

The case was adjourned to November 30 for ruling.
