Judge Throws Out Ofili-Ajumogobia’s Suit Against EFCC

A federal judge has thrown out a rights enforcement suit filed by embattled high court judge, Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Ofili-Ajumogobia, who is battling graft charges preferred against her by the EFCC, had asked the court to order her release from custody and declare same illegal.

In her ruling Tuesday,  trial judge, Muslim Hassan, of Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday said the defendant’s request had become an academic exercise since she had been arraigned in court by the same EFCC she sought to be released from.

“The issue of the applicant’s bail from the EFCC custody has been overtaken by the event of her arraignment at the Lagos High Court and her subsequent release on bail by the court,” Justice Hassan held.
