Kidnap: Otedola Escapes As Police Bust Ex-Soldier, NSDC Officer

Police say it arrested Adeyemi Kayode, serving officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and two others over the planned kidnap of

Femi Otedola, oil magnate and chairman, Forte Oil Plc.  The others are 29-year-old Ikechukwu Daniel, from Imo State, and Ayodele Temidayo, an ex-soldier.

Don Awunah, deputy commissioner of police, in a statement, said the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team, IRT, arrested the three suspects on 23 June. Daniel, said to be the principal suspect, was allegedly rusticated from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria for cult-related activities, the statement said. He is also said to be “the IT guru of the kidnap gang with mastery of Computer applications.

“He made damning revelations of their criminal exploits in the South West of the country”, Awunah said.

Another suspect, 29-year-old Kayode, the serving officer, was until his arrest personal assistant to the Commandant, NSCDC, Oyo State Command.

“The suspect took undue advantage of his office to obtain the GSM number and location of their would be victim. He hatched the plan on how to kidnap the business magnate to make a demand of one billion naira ransom”, the said the police.
On his part, Temitayo, the third suspect, is the gang’s alleged marksman, armourer, who reportedly was “dismissed from 213 Battalion Maiduguri of Nigeria Army as a private in 2015”.
“All the suspects made confessional statements revealing that they had successfully carried out several high profile kidnappings and two AK47 rifles loaded with live ammunition were recovered from them”, the police said.

The statement adds that other gang members are being hunted.
