John Abah, lawmaker representing Ibaji Constituency in the Kogi House of Assembly, has urged the state government to ensure the listing of the state as an oil-producing state by the Federal Government.
Abah, in a motion he sponsored during the Kogi Assembly plenary, said
move to have the federal government confer the status on the state was begun by late former Governor Abubakar Audu.
“Late Prince Audu Abubakar, the former governor of Kogi State, on July 18, 2001, conveyed a letter to the Group Managing Director of NNPC, notifying the corporation of discovery of crude oil in Ibaji Local Government Area.
“He also requested NNPC to carry out a thorough investigation to determine the extent of the deposit. Though the investigation initially carried out by the NNPC was not published, it’s certain there is oil deposit in the Ibaji Area of the state,” Abah said.
