A man named John Paul has reportedly committed suicide in a hotel where he lodged at Festac Town, Lagos.

According to police reports, Paul, 30, a resident of 322 Road, J Close, Festac Town, had failed to check out of Ascort Hotel as expected after spending 24 hours. He was found dangling from a rope in his room by one of the hotel workers.

It was gathered that the hotel manager, identified only as Ayedapa, reported the case at the Festac Town Police Division. His family members had earlier reported him missing at the same station.

A police source said that Paul was believed to have killed himself as a result of financial challenges. He added that the corpse had since been deposited at the mortuary. “The man’s relations identified his corpse, and it was deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy”, he said.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident, said investigations were ongoing.
