French Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille are ready to sign out of favour Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi. The French side, which once had Taiwo Taiwo in its ranks, is however concerned about the Nigerian’s £3.4m-a-year salary. Reports had said club manager Rudi Garcia was desperate to land the midfielder in January to boost his options.
Mikel has been out of the Chelsea squad sine Antonio Conte took over in the summer. The Eagles’ captain is said to have angered the Italian by playing for Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Le 10 Sport said Mikel, who guided Nigeria to a 3-1 win over Algeria’s Desert Foxes in their Russia 2018 World Cup Group B qualifier in Uyo on Saturday, could move to China where he would be guaranteed an annual salary matching what he currently earns at Chelsea.
