Isah Alhassan, Minister of Women Affairs, has urged women in Gombe State to take advantage of the National Women Empowerment Fund. The fund, she said, is a N1.6 billion interest free loan. Alhassan said this on Monday at a Town Hall Meeting on the National Women Empowerment Fund (NAWEF) and Government Enterprise and Empowerment (GEEP) in Gombe State.
The minister said both schemes were financial micro-credit programmes aimed at reducing poverty and making available financial aids for women.
“The NAWEF will be piloted in eight states and will target about 10, 000 women beneficiaries per state.
“It will disburse an estimated N200 million per pilot state through active and functional cooperatives, local trade associations and other community-based groups,” she said.
Alhassan also said that the programme offers between N10,000 to N100,000 loan repayable in six months and with a five percent charge.
“There is no doubt that the two schemes will enable women to support their families better and contribute to governments drive to expand and diversify the economy,” she said.
