The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has warned importers of fake drugs and unregistered food products.
John Okwori, a Deputy Director in the agency gave this warning in an interview in Enugu State. He said NAFDAC was determined to rid the state of fake products. Okwori said counterfeiters have made the Akanu Ibiam International Airport a transit route, therefore warning them to desist.
“They thought they can quietly use Enugu and its satellite towns’ obscurity to move the unwholesome products,” he said. He said the agency had seized such products and prosecuted the culprits.
Okwori added the agency will meet importers and freight forwarders in the South East region on the matter.
“The penalty can involve a heavy monetary fine, imprisonment for between five and 15 years or both fine and imprisonment together,’’ Okwori stated.
