The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has seized 5,000 kilograms of Marijuana, otherwise called Indian hemp, in Abaji, near Abuja.
Peter Adegbe, NDLEA’s Public Relations Officer said some of the traffickers and two trucks carrying the substance were arrested, adding the trucks were headed to Kano and Jos through Abuja.
Adegbe said one Ubale Hashim, who drove one of the trucks, with his conductor, Sanusi Ibrahim was found with 80 bags of cannabis, weighing about 734.7kg.
He said the second truck conveying about 3,750 bags of cannabis weighing about 3,934 kg was left abandoned after the occupants sighted NDLEA officials.
The PRO said NDLEA’s Commander in the area, Chinyere Obijuru has ordered patrol teams to intensify stop-and-search operations along routes to the FCT, uging residents to be on alert and report suspicious drug activity to the nearest NDLEA office.
Recall that in October, over 2,000 kilograms of Indian hemp, cocaine and other illicit drugs were seized by the command in that same area.
