Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has returned N100 million to the Federal Government. The one-time Peoples Democratic Party Lagos governorship aspirant is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of accepting N2 billion from the then National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. Premium Times reports that the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ibrahim Magu, had asked Obanikoro to sign an undertaking to pay N600 million within a stipulated time. He was said to have refused saying he had no means of raising the sum.
The source, however, said the embattled Obanikoro has been cooperative with the agency. He was remanded in custody after turning himself in to the anti-graft agency on 17 October.
