Ex-Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie has rued the red card he received in his club, Rotherham United’s loss to Leeds United at the New York Stadium. The 35-year-old was red-carded in the first half after he caught Leed’s Liam Cooper with an outstretched elbow. The former Stoke City player said he had been protecting himself and did not ean to strike the opposition player with his elbow. He praised his teammates for getting a late consolation goal in the 86th minute courtesy of a Richard Wood header and for almost picking up a point from the visitors in the closing stages of the game.
“I was unlucky with the red card. We all normally jump with our hands up to protect each other and expected his to be up as well,” Odemwingie tweeted.
“I didn’t mean to but caught the player and accept the referee had no choice. Hope the boys get something out of the game. Ups and downs.
“Great effort from the boys. Had the chances to equalise. Proud of them giving us hope for the season. Second half performance was top class.”
