By Adebayo Williams

An MTN outlet in the Marian Road area of Calabar, the Cross River State capital was raided by robbers on Tuesday. The five-man robbery gang also shot a mobile policeman, identified as Sunday, who had gone to swap his SIM card and dispossessed him of his rifle. Customers and workers of the telecommunication company were robbed of money and other valuables. Eyewitnesses say the operation lasted for almost 30 minutes without intervention by security operatives.

An eyewitness, Mosun Adeoye, told Southern News that an unidentified worker was shot at close range. She said the bullet had pierced the lady’s stomach all the way to her back. She added that the lady had been operated on at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital but had some vital organs damaged by the bullet.
The robbers escaped with their loot in a Toyota Sienna bus snatched from a lady in the area.

The Police Public Relation Officer in charge of the command, Irene Ugbo, said no arrests had been made, but the incident was being investigated.
