Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has become the highest scorer in the history of the Madrid derby. The Portuguese forward bagged a hat-trick to beat club legend Alfredo Di Stefano’s record. The 31-year-old had been third with 15 goals before the match. His second goal put him level at the top of the charts with the Argentine great while his third broke the record.
The hat-trick takes the Portuguese star up to eight goals in nine league games this season, level with Barcelona pair Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez – who were both out of action at the weekend – at the top of the scoring charts. Ronaldo has now scored 374 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid and is just three more away from hitting the 500 mark for his career as a whole with Real, Manchester United and Sporting.
The match was the last Madrid derby to played at the Vicente Calderon as Atletico finalise plans to move to their new stadium.
