President Muhammadu Buhari says he is dismayed by his rumoured rift with influential politician Bola Tinubu. Garba Shehu, Buhari’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, reportedly dismissed the allegation in a presidential press release on Monday.
Shehu also said that Tinubu did not work against then All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate and governor-elect Rotimi Akeredolu. He said Tinubu did not fail on his promise to the president that he wouldn’t work against his party’s interest in the last Saturday election.
The presidential media aide also explained that President Buhari regards Mr. Tinubu as a priceless political asset to the party whose immeasurable contributions to the development and progress of the ruling party are known to all. Shehu advised rumour mongers to desist, adding President Buhari is proud of the Jagaban and his pivotal role in the party and the movement.
President Buhari commended Mr. Tinubu’s spirit of comradeship in promptly congratulating Rotimi Akeredolu who was elected governor.
The President also noted that at a time his administration is preoccupied with governance issues, rumours of divisions and alleged scheming within the party are counterproductive to internal unity and cohesion in APC.
He appealed to APC members and supporters to avoid divisive rumours that could mar the party unity.
