The Nigerian Communications Commission claimed telecommunication subscribers in Nigeria have hit 153.3 million. The NCC said active subscribers have increased by 495,426 in September against the 152,776,155 subscribers in August.
According to the data provided by the NCC, 152,836,997 active numbers subscribed to the Global System for Mobile Communication, GSM network services.
The figures the regulatory body provided showed that Airtel topped the chart of new subscribers for September with 400,847 new subscribers, followed by Globacom with 215,700 new subscribers
MTN came next with 60,558,569 users, followed by Etisalat with 64, 870 new subscribers.
.The reports showed that Etisalat recorded a loss in their customer base by 64,870.
NCC said in accordance with Section 89 Subsection 3(c) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 mandated it monitored and reported the state of the telecommunications industry.
”The commission is mandated to provide statistical analyses and identify industry trends with regard to services, tariffs, operators, technology, subscribers, issues of competition and dominance.
