Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG have announced former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas coach of the side. The 39-year-old Portuguese replaces Sven-Goran Eriksson. The former England boss was fired after finishing third in the league last season.

“Andre Villas-Boas is the leading young manager in European football, with a huge amount of passion and coaching experience,” a Shanghai SIPG statement read.

“We are convinced his arrival will enrich the tactical nous of the team, unearth the potential of our young talents and guide our club to scale new heights.”

Villas-Boas will be expected to better the lot of the club after they invested €55.8 million in Hulk. The move proved to be a failure after they failed to win the league, finishing 12 points below winners, Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao.
