Yabatech Suspends Academic Activities Over Hostel Fire Incident

The management of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, “has suspended all academic activities till further notice”, according to an internal memo sighted by Newsbreak.Ng.

“By this notice, all examinations, and lecturers, especially scheduled for today have been put on hold while the College attends to the exigency”, said the memo, signed by Yabatech rector, Margaret Kudirat Ladipo.

“The management says it frowns at “the misguided  and outright falsehood on the social media and calls to certain radio stations that there was no water on campus to quell the fire. The truth is that firemen needed an excavator to attend to the fire, which the College provided”.

memoBakassi Hall, a female hostel within the Yaba College of Technology, in Lagos, was gutted by fire Wednesday morning. Newsbreak.Ng sources said a faulty wire sparked the inferno and damaged the uppermost floor of the hall. The fire was eventually put out at about 9 am by a combined team of Yabatech fire department, Unilag Fire Service and the Lagos State Fire Service.

Moreover, some injured students, including others allegedly electrocuted were rushed to the College Medical Centre for treatment.
