The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF and National Planning met in a two-day workshop in Kano to discuss on how to finance proper nutrition in Northern Nigeria.
The workshop, organized to address complexity and multi sectorial nature of nutrition and identifying opportunities for financing nutrition in the 2017 budget in the respective Northern states was attended by state legislators and high policy makers
CISLAC’s Programme Officer, Chioma Kanu, said the summit attracted over 70 leaders from State Houses of Assembly, State and Federal ministries including stakeholders from nutrition and civil society organizations.
However, the communiqué released at the end of the summit said the delay in the implementation of the national policy guidelines by the National Policy on Food and Nutrition and the National Strategic Plan of Action for Nutrition hampered the progress of addressing the issue of nutrition.
