Southgate Vows To Build Strong England Team

By Adebayo Williams

Newly appointed England boss, Gareth Southgate has vowed to build a team to make the country proud. Southgate, who has a record of three wins and a draw before he was appointed permanently, is due to have his first press conference as Three Lions manager on Thursday at Wembley.

Southgate was offered a four year contract worth £1.5 million per year. The FA board agreed that it would be putting Southgate under too much pressure to ask him to deliver in time for the 2018 World Cup when he will have little more than a year to instil his philosophy on the England players, as his first game as permanent manager is not until March.

‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the players over these past four games and I think there’s huge potential.

‘I’m determined to give everything I have to give the country a team that they’re proud of and one that they’re going to enjoy watching play and develop. For me, the hard work starts now.’

The new boss will be expected to hold his decision on the team’s captaincy following Wayne Rooney’s drinking saga. His first game in charge comes in March.
