Adeniyi Ademola, embattled Nigerian judge, will answer more criminal charges in his ongoing trial, a government lawyer told the court.
Segun Jegede, the prosecution counsel prayed trial judge Jude Okeke, of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja, for more time to file the amended charges. Jegede, also, informed the court his intention to join a senior lawyer Joe Agi as a defendant in the case.
Ruling, Justice Okeke granted Jegede’s prayer before adjourning till Wednesday for commencement of the trial.
Justice Ademola, alongside his wife, Olubowale were first arraigned on December 13, 2016 for corruption and sundry other offences preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Among the offences are that the judge received bribe and conspired to receive one. The EFCC also claimed to have found on Justice Ademola unlicensed firearms. Moreso, the was alleged to have separately transferred N85m and N90m to Franco Dan Parker on February 24, 2014.
On his part, Agi was said to have offered a bribe of N30m to the judge between March 11 and March 26, 2015.
