A man, Isiaka Mustapha, has allegedly defiled a 14-year-old orange seller, while blaming his action on an evil spirit. The incident happened at Aremo, area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The 29-year-old suspect, a commercial driver, was arrested by the State Police Command after the victim’s mother reported the crime at the station.
It was alleged that Mustapha had committed the act on 6 January, when he invited the unidentified victim into his house under the guise of buying oranges. The former had pounced on and raped the girl resulting in bleeding due to loss of the latter’s virginity.
The suspect, who confessed to the crime at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), said he was directed by an evil spirit.
“At a point, I didn’t know the spirit that entered into me and made me to rape her in my room.
"When I forced my manhood into her, she screamed in pain and I withdrew immediately. I regretted my action when I saw her bleeding and started asking for forgiveness from God. I also pleaded with her to forgive me. I paid her the money for the oranges I bought and asked to go home. Two days after, two men came to my house and I was arrested”, Mustapha said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, while advising parents to watch over their children carefully said the suspect will be arraigned after investigations are concluded.
