A truck loaded with cows and their handlers reportedly strayed off a bridge before falling into a river, along Yola-Numan Road, in Adamawa state, on Sunday. The driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle. Fifteen people allegedly died in the accident.
“I received a call at about 22:00hours on Sunday that there was a crash on Ngurore Bridge on Yola-Numan Highway. On arrival at the scene, we discovered that it was a truck carrying cows and passengers that lost control and fell into the drying river,” said Adegoke Adetunji, Adamawa’s Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
Adetunji said six corpses were taken to the Federal Medical Centre and nine others, to the Specialists Hospital, in Yola. The FRSC boss warned transporters against night travel and lumping of human beings and animals in one vehicle.
