Lagos state government says it is planning a world class museum and will make landmark areas in the Marina and Onikan axis recreational and tourism centre. Among these landmarks are Presidential Lodge, which is to be redeveloped into the Lagos Heritage Centre for Leadership, Lagos House to transformed into the Lagos Historical Centre and the JK Randle Arcade to become a world class recreation/tourism centre.
Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos, said this at the Eko Hotels and Suites where the idea was presented. Ambode was appalled culture and traditions are being neglected and youths not genuinely appreciative of the nation’s history.
“Every society must cherish its historical antecedents because they serve as source of inspiration for succeeding generations to discover, appreciate and take pride in their identity. It has become very imperative that we take a step back and revisit our history. It has become important that we renew efforts to preserve and protect our history and historical artefacts,” he said.
